I’m a true product of the 80’s. I grew up in the rather uncool phase of the 80’s…when polka dot and stripes were worn together in contrasting pastels, when people wore their socks in 3 colorful layers, and when wearing your hair banana clip was actually cool…
Anyway, ther other night I went to an 80’s party at a local dance club and there were so many people dressed up in their retrotastic gear. Some guys were rockin’ the sweatbands and short shorts, while others rocked the Miami Vice look with shades. All the girls were decked out in lame and sequin prom dresses and frocks that looked like they came straight from the costume rack of Designing Women.
I represented, wearing my jeans, tights, and buttons. I attempted the big hair, but it was flat by the end of the night (I guess that’s what happens when you don’t use Aquanet). So many people got a big kick out of my Joey Mac button. I guess people didn’t keep theirs (Admittedly, I bought mine at a flea market a couple of years ago – I never had a big one as a kid).
Hey, also check out my crafty charm bracelet. I bought it off a girl online a couple of years ago. It is filled with random 80’s charms.
Also, gotta give props to my friend Chris for all the great photos.
