My friend Kristy shared this video on her Facebook Page about the abandoned Six Flags New Orleans Park. I watched the video and it is very creepy, sad, and at the same time beautiful. It reminds me a lot of a horror movie or one of those “Life After People” episodes. Everytime I watch one of those episodes, I’m totally creeped out!
I think what is so weird is that a lot of the remnants are so new… a Spongebob Squarepants ride, park signage, security cameras, etc. that have aged so quickly in such a short amount of time. It’s only 5+ years after the fact and this place is in total ruins. I’m sure a lot of this can be attributed to vandals, but a lot of it is just natural erosion. I also think it’s that we rarely see this kind of abandonment in such a new place. We expect it from things 50+ years or older, but not something so new (Sad, but eventually our own stuff will be like this). It’s also amazing to me how fantasy-like amusement parks really are…many of the restaurants and rides were created to capture an era or a mood. Like faux finishing…I think this is what makes this place even more haunting.
I found some other cool pics of this site on Flickr.

A lot of these people have some other great photos in their sets if you click to view them on Flickr.
I hope you found this as fascinating as I did!
Until next time Swellions!
I would love to get in there to take some pictures! And thanks for the light box idea – I’ll definitely give it a try!
