How to make pretty doodled leaves + video tutorial

The gift of doodle

I’ve been doodling a lot lately. Maybe it’s a getting back to basics thing. Not sure, but I’ve been having a lot of fun! Something about doodling and not thinking about it is nice. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just fun and I just have been going with the flow.

1234 leaves in a row

Doodle leaves

I was inspired to make these leaves after seeing a journal belonging to my co-worker. I used a cut out leaf stencil (I cut myself) to keep me into a loose leaf shape. Seriously, I tried drawing them without the stencil and they weren’t pretty. I needed the stencil to give me an edge to stop at.

When I first started coloring them in, I just randomly used marker colors from my bin, I didn’t think and I actually ended up using a color combo I wouldn’t normally gravitate too. It’s nice to mix it up.

Here’s a little video I made showing you how to make these. I actually cut off the stems for these leaves, but you can leave them on if you want.

For the top of the box, I added a flower from this doodled flower tutorial I did last week. They’d make a great accent to a gift, scrapbook page, or accessory, don’t you think?

If you like doodle art check out Zentangle. There are lots of sites and blogs. Check out my blogger list for some to see. It’s really a beautiful art, and useful for cards, etc. I like your leaves. I’ve made some paper pieced leaves like yours only in fabric.
