Make a Cool Pop Art Rainbow Portrait

rainbow portrait

I love color and black and white mixed together. Here’s a super quick project to make a cool photo where the two collide. And you can do it less than 5 minutes flat!! Here’s how:

1. Start of turning your color photo into black and white. You will need to make it “grayscale”. I played with the levels in Photoshop and made it high contrast black and white so that it almost looked pop art in nature.

2. Turn the photo back into RGB mode so you can start working in color. Make a selection and fill it in with a color (I guesstimated the width, but you can take a more mathmetic approach so you get exactly the right number of bars across). I personally wanted to use colors in order, but you can play around with your colors and palettes.

3. Duplicate that selection, then on each layer, use the magic wand and change the color of each of the bars until you have gone across the whole photo.

4. Now in each of the layers, choose multiply from the layer styles palette. Voila! You have your finished portrait to save, upload, or print!

You may want to just use this on certain parts of your black and white photo to accent a particular feature or element.

Hope you enjoyed this photo tutorial!

Until next time Swellions!
