Easy Typography Pumpkins

Here’s a little fun inspiration for all those type lovers out there!  Why not turn your passion for all things font into some cool typographic pumpkins?  The reason I like this project is that is is quite possibly the easiest way to make a statement without having to try at all.  This is pretty much my life motto too…do as little work possible and get big results is what I say!

So all you have to do for these orange fellas is randomly apply vinyl stickers that you get on a sheet from your arts and craft store.  You could try scrapbooking stickers as well if you are going for a little bit more whimsy and less Helvetica.  For the mini pumpkin, I simply cut up a black and white measuring tape I got at JoAnn and added applied it with some of my favorite go-to glue…Aleene’s Tacky Glue. I snipped it to contour up with the stem of the pumpkin.

And BOOYAH!  There you have it, some fun, cheap pumpkins that will make a bold addition to your porch or mantel. I love that it’s the classic Halloween colors mixed with letters. Maybe I should call these FONT-O-LANTERNS?  Hmm, whatcha think?

Until next time Swellions!

My “I can’t live without this” purchase!

street scene find

A couple of weeks ago, while picking up my check at Street Scene for some photos I am selling there, I spotted this really cool plastic hanging organizer. I’m not exactly sure what this was used once used for, but I immediately knew that I had to have it. I envision it hanging in my studio one day filled with interchangable photos or at the very least holding some mail. I always have such big ideas for my décor, but it is not as clean and polished as I would like. I would love, love to live in a magazine spread, but I seriously don’t think this to be realistic.

Anyway, back to my organizer, I just love all the colors…I’m such a sucker for warm, bright shades (especially red and orange). And I love the diagonal slices of color painted on the back of the plastic…so fab and kinda ’70’s colors with an ’80’s motif!

It’s not everyday that I make a purchase I just can’t live without. I’m pretty good about disciplining myself to stay away from such things. Esp. décor items…I live in an apartment after all which really limits my space and I don’t want to clutter it up even more! But I do have a few things I just have had to buy…these include:

These Marilyn Monroe glasses I bought before I moved to Lexington…
marilyn glasses

This awesome retro tray (also doubles as a backdrop for photographs)
bargain tray

and really, how could you not buy these?
why? because I like you.

I can’t really say that I’ve used these things on a daily (Mickey Mouse ears, seriously?) or even monthly basis, but they do make me smile when I see them.

What have you purchased that you just couldn’t live without?

Until next time Swellions!

You don’t even know how nutty I really am…

Writing to you as I drink diet Coke outta my black kettle mug. And you know that can only mean one thing…I’m getting ready to put out my Halloween decorations!!!

I have so many decorations. I actually don’t have enough space to display them all. I envision myself one day having my house featured in one of those fancy decor mags with my house all decked out. That’s a little ways off, though. Right now I live in a pretty good sized apartment, but it’s not the perfect space for me to get all my goodies out. I actually would like to pull the reigns in a bit more on my decorations and be able to fine tune the style I want. You see, there’s cute, vintage, sophisticated, and then gosh darn scary Halloween decor. I’d say I’m more into the vintage/sophisticated style. I have a few scary things and I do own a fog machine, but I don’t like the guts and goriness of Halloween. I far more prefer the playful aspect of it.

Well, here’s my stash that I pulled in from my outside storage. I actually forgot to showcase my vintage monster posters, which are seen in this cleaned up living room picture from last year…

Oh, and here’s the stash…

I’m sure you noticed, but I updated the look of my blog a bit. I did the header on the fly…if I get a chance, I’d like to redo it, but it will do for now. Blogger has a new customizable header and sidebar setup that’s really easy. I added in a fun slideshow and poll, so check those out! Also take notice of my Terrorific Tuesday link and click on it if you want to know about how you can participate. I’ve had quite a few people…prob. 10 in all show interest so far, so spread the word!

Oh, and Amy from Living Locurto gave me a sweet shout out on her blog today 🙂 Check out her blog and her Halloween blog party and find out how you can participate that one as well 🙂 She’s my soul sister in all things Halloween!

Well, gotta get going. Until tomorrow Swellions!
