A Glasses Story

my glasses

Not to be confused with a Wedding Story or a Baby Story (remember those old shows on TLC?), I bring you a Glasses Story!  Haha. I’ve been wanting to do more videos of late and here’s one I did on the fly tonight.  I’ve had glasses since I was 8, so they are second nature to me. I’ve kept like every pair I’ve ever owned and thought I would sport them on video just for you! LOL!

Sally Jessy Raphael and Steve Urkel make appearances in my video, so this is one you DON’T wanna miss!

If you wear glasses and can relate to my silly video, leave a comment below!  I’d love to hear about your four-eyed experiences too!

Until next time Swellions!

A quickie look at my new glasses!

I just got two new pairs of glasses. Yippee! I had the other pair for about 4 or 5 years so it was time for a change. Also, I wanted to get two pair cause I’ve always wanted to be able to mix up my look every now and then. I plan to go back and get contacts at some point soon too, but honestly, I’m pretty lazy and I just like glasses.

When I went to the Dr., he said I’d be a good candidate for Lasik. I’ve not put too much thought into it and I’ve heard mixed reactions on it. Maybe down the road I would consider it, but I don’t think it’s something I will do anytime in the near future.

I know these aren’t great pics or detail, but I promise to post better photos soon. One pair is DKNY and black lenses with black and white stripes on the side and subtle black/green around the inside. The other is Ermenegildo Zegna and has tortoise shell at thop and it fads into a blue with stripes. It’s really pretty. They have a similar style frame, but the black DKNY is a bit more angular.

And for nostalgia sake, here’s a pic of all the glasses I’ve worn up until this point. I’ve never thrown any of my old pairs away. I have had them since 2nd grade and my eyesight is really bad. Both my mom and dad have bad eyesight. I would prob be considered legally blind, but what qualifies that? I’m not sure.

Anyway, just wanted to share!

Until next time Swellions!

joy is moi

Typing this tonight sans glasses. Got an eye exam today and they took them away from me, gave me contacts (they are soaking now), and told me they would be ready for pickup on Monday. I can deal with wearing contacts, but an all day wear wears on my nerves…dry eyes. I guess I could easily solve this problem by getting eye drops, but I can’t handle the general annoyance and irritation. I used to actually…wore hard contacts for 5 or so years of my life non-stop…when I first got contacts my freshman year of high school, I somehow magically thought they would help me get a boyfriend. My plan didn’t work and I continued wearing the contacts way into college in the hopes that my prince would come. Didn’t.happen.

I totally love the glasses I have now and think they represent me and my style. I just hate having to part with them, even for 2 days.

Well, the bed calls. I have hopefully some craftiness ahead of me tomorrow in the form of some necklaces, a lanyard, earrings, etc. I also have some ideas for an etsy shop up my sleeve that would be very easy…I need the simplest thing I can sell online and I’ve decided to sell digital prints, so keep your eyes peeled.

Until tomorrow, Swellions!

Saturday swell and random facts

Because sometimes a band-aid just isn't enough
1. The biggest prize I ever won was a computer for a Design an Ad contest for the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer newspaper. I was even competitive and driven back then. I actually had entered the year before and was featured, but didn’t win. The second year, I came up with a concept and really thought about ad copy and design. At this point in my life, I had a basic understanding of ads and layout and that is what you see here. I guess I always intuitively had a graphic style to my artwork even before that, so it makes sense that I’m a graphic designer now. Anyway, the computer was a Hewlett Packard (not really all that great, but it did the trick at the time). I took it to college with me. I remember at the time, I got no recognition for this at my high school. They only seemed to focus on announcing sports recognitions. My high school wasn’t known for it’s academics, really, and they didn’t stress it, so needless to say I was disappointed.

4th grade
2. I have worn glasses since the second grade. Both my mom and dad both have glasses, so I guess it only makes sense that I have poor eyesight as well. I went through a phase in high school and college where I wore hard contacts for appearance sake. I didn’t like my glasses and I thought I looked prettier without them. I’m greatful, though that I found a pair that reflect more my retro/modern style. I actually love wearing them now.

BarbieBathtub
3. I prefer baths to showers. Always have since being a little girl with wrinkly prune fingers. I guess I just find it more relaxing sitting than standing and I also like to write and read while I’m taking a bath. Seems like I always have to be making something of every little ounce of my time.

Whitney_Houston-_Greatest_Love_of_All
4. The first record I ever bought was Whitney Houston’s “The Greatest Love of All”. I was so inspired by her and found her to be the most beautiful woman on earth with her mega-wattage smile. I also think she just represented that time period for me…I loved the colors she wore and the very 80’s vibe she put off in her videos. I even wrote an article in high school about her inspiring me for this senior writing project thing we had to do for the state. I actually still have the record, but it’s broken now.

I come cheap
5. My friends say that if there were faux senior superlatives, I would win for “Always having a cheesy song for every occasion” and “Best funny faces”. I guess it’s true, if we were to have a conversation, and you say a certain word, I can come up with a random song from my head to go with that word. My sister said it reminded me of a patient she had that had head trama (she’s a speech pathologist) who did the same thing. Thanks sis! Ha ha. As for the funny face thing, I used to be uber serios when it came to my faces in pics, but with the whole digital camera thing and having so many different, unlimited pics, I guess I’ve eased up and have more fun with it. Also, I guess I try to hide my double chin a lot and anything to defer from that is a good thing.

Well gotta go pack and get my camera ready for a big photo taking day back in my hometown.

Until we meet again, Swellions…
