Fall Shimmer Glitter Pumpkin Tutorial

This pumpkin project is one of those that will last you from September to Thanksgiving!  The colors and glitter shimmer just scream fall and all it takes are some of your favorite puffy paint colors and a steady hand.

What you need for this project:
– Pumpkins (any size will do)
Tulip 3D Fabric Paints (gold metallic, gold glitter, pomegranate, copper, and red glitter)
– Foam Brush
– Plate or palette
– Soft cloth

Start off by squeezing some of the Tulip 3D paint in metallic gold onto the pumpkin and stem. Rub it off with a soft cloth. This will give the entire pumpkin a pretty metallic sheen.

Now make a flower shape on top  of the pumpkin using your Tulip 3D Glitter paint.

In between each “petal” squeeze out another petal

Repeat this over the entire pumpkin. This will create a cool “scalloped” effect on the surface.

For added visual drama, I added vertical and horizontal paint strips inside each petal.

For the red mini pumpkin, I painted it with a coat of copper 3D paint mixed with pomegranate 3D paint. I love adding metallics to add sheen to my paint colors!

I then covered the surface with red glitter 3D paint leaves.  The funny thing is that this pumpkin actually looks like a pomegranate too me (which means my fiance will like it…he’s obsessed with pomegranates!)

Here’s some photos of them when they dried. They turned out so shimmery!

Don’t forget to glitter your stems so they match the rest of the pumpkin!

I love the way the glitter dries!

This is so easy and has an amazing impact on display.  I think the tone on tone effect really works here!

Until next time Swellions!

Ombre Polka Dot Glitter Pumpkins

I’m still on the great pumpkin decorating spree of 2012! Haha.  In addition to my Crayon Drip Pumpkin, Instagram Pumpkin, Mustache Pumpkin, Handkerchief pumpkins and Fabric Pumpkin,  I now add Ombre Polka Dot Glitter pumpkins to the list.  I actually have a few more pumpkin projects in the works at my day job (iLoveToCreate) and you’ll see a special post tomorrow on my friend Jen’s blog at Tatertots & Jello! I don’t know about you, but ever since Martha did those glitter pumpkins a few years back, I’ve had an addiction to the glitter pumpkin! This version is a little different color twist than the normal Halloween colors, but I’m all about mixing it up!  So let’s get started!

What you need: Large and small white pumpkins, Tulip Fashion Glitter 5 pack, Aleene’s large adhesive Tacky Dots (available at Michaels), Aleene’s Fast Grab Tacky Spray, and polka dot stickers.

I started with my large polka dot pumpkin. The Tacky Dots are super easy to use and extra large!  They are double sided so you simply remove the plastic backing from one side of the dot and adhere, peeling the other plastic backing away.

Instead of putting all the dots on one time, I did a section at a time.

I simply glittered the dots using the Tulip Fashion Glitters, making sure to cover them well.

I then dumped off the glitter. Next I applied another series of dots, and I continued with turquoise. I next glittered the royal blue and purple dots! If there’s any excess glitter on the pumpkins, I used a small paintbrush to brush the glitter off.

For the small pumpkin, randomly put the polka dot stickers on your pumpkin.

Spray the top of the pumpkin with glitter using the Fast Grab Tacky Spray.  Sprinkle the first coat of glitter and shake off.

Spray the next section and add the next color of glitter. Continue with the next two colors until your pumpkin is covered like this.

Peel off the stickers carefully. You can use a small paintbrush to ged rid of any excess glitter inside your dots.

And there you have it!  Of course you can use your favorite colors of glitter in ombre shades – or – you could do it in a shade like candy corn colors…wouldn’t that be fun?

Here’s a version my friend Pattiewack used just using the regular orange pumpkin and black glitter! Such a classic fun look!

I am a big COLOR girl, I love everything bright, colorful, and fun. Just because the traditional Halloween pumpkin may be orange, doesn’t mean it has to be! I whipped out my glitter, paint, and paintbrushes and decided to transform my pumpkin into a Rainbow glitter pumpkin!

Rainbow Glitter Pumpkin

What you do:
paint-pumpkin-in-strips
1. Squeeze out your paints onto palette. Use foam brush to form first stripe on pumpkin. Paint from top to bottom of pumpkin. I even painted the stem! If you feel uncomfortable about making your rainbow rays even, mark off 7 sections with a pencil.

2. Immediately sprinkle on corresponding glitter color. Shake off excess into your box top.

brush-off-excess-glitter
3. Brush off excess glitter with clean paintbrush. That way you can move onto your next paint basecoat and glitter color.

4. Let dry. Spray with acrylic sealer if desired!

Here’s another fun shot! If you paired two pumpkins together, you’d have Double Rainbow pumpkins!
