Smitten with The 3 R’s Blog

Lighting is one of my favorite things to DIY, so tonight I was really perusing through the 3 R’s blog and I was blown away by Allison’s use of materials and innovation into turning nothing into something absolutely AMAZEBALLS! She says she’s a former architecture student, so now her eye for detail and construction makes a lot more sense!  Though she doesn’t share how she made her creations, she does sell them on her Etsy shop Zipper8Design.

Here’s just a few of my fave examples, though, her site is filled with many more amazing creations that you’ll want to scroll through. I love that she shows what they look like turned on and off. She provided tons of eye candy to drool over! Mod and simple…my heart is pitter pattering!

Until next time Swellions!

Lighting Options for your home

I’m a big fan of clever lighting solutions and there a lot of really cool ideas to be found in this Decor it Yourself video from Threadbanger.

instant color

Here’s a couple of the lighting options in my house. The yellow/orange glows always cast a nice glow, esp. if you can’t paint the walls. Great solution for making things more cozy. I got my lanterns at World Market, but you can also find them at IKEA, and Pier One. Also look locally in your town at Asian gift stores or specialty gift shops. Some carry them there too.

yellow lamp

My lamp shade is from Deadly Nightshades. I’m sure you could possibly make these yourself, but they did such a great job. Sometimes I would just rather have someone make it and get it instantly rather than spending the time and never getting around to tackling it (it happens a lot with me!)

dotted tissue paper lantern

And you may remember this Dotted Paper Tissue Lantern DIY project I made last year.

And some of my faves from around the web?

I can never get enough of these Capiz Shell lanterns from West Elm.

DIY pendant lantern
This DIY folded lantern from AhYiyi is really fab.

Colorful chandelier from Urban Outfitters
And I just love this chandelier lighting from Urban Outfitters, don’t you?

What kind of lighting options do you have around your home? Please share 🙂

Until next time Swellions!
