Ombre Polka Dot Glitter Pumpkins

I’m still on the great pumpkin decorating spree of 2012! Haha.  In addition to my Crayon Drip Pumpkin, Instagram Pumpkin, Mustache Pumpkin, Handkerchief pumpkins and Fabric Pumpkin,  I now add Ombre Polka Dot Glitter pumpkins to the list.  I actually have a few more pumpkin projects in the works at my day job (iLoveToCreate) and you’ll see a special post tomorrow on my friend Jen’s blog at Tatertots & Jello! I don’t know about you, but ever since Martha did those glitter pumpkins a few years back, I’ve had an addiction to the glitter pumpkin! This version is a little different color twist than the normal Halloween colors, but I’m all about mixing it up!  So let’s get started!

What you need: Large and small white pumpkins, Tulip Fashion Glitter 5 pack, Aleene’s large adhesive Tacky Dots (available at Michaels), Aleene’s Fast Grab Tacky Spray, and polka dot stickers.

I started with my large polka dot pumpkin. The Tacky Dots are super easy to use and extra large!  They are double sided so you simply remove the plastic backing from one side of the dot and adhere, peeling the other plastic backing away.

Instead of putting all the dots on one time, I did a section at a time.

I simply glittered the dots using the Tulip Fashion Glitters, making sure to cover them well.

I then dumped off the glitter. Next I applied another series of dots, and I continued with turquoise. I next glittered the royal blue and purple dots! If there’s any excess glitter on the pumpkins, I used a small paintbrush to brush the glitter off.

For the small pumpkin, randomly put the polka dot stickers on your pumpkin.

Spray the top of the pumpkin with glitter using the Fast Grab Tacky Spray.  Sprinkle the first coat of glitter and shake off.

Spray the next section and add the next color of glitter. Continue with the next two colors until your pumpkin is covered like this.

Peel off the stickers carefully. You can use a small paintbrush to ged rid of any excess glitter inside your dots.

And there you have it!  Of course you can use your favorite colors of glitter in ombre shades – or – you could do it in a shade like candy corn colors…wouldn’t that be fun?

Here’s a version my friend Pattiewack used just using the regular orange pumpkin and black glitter! Such a classic fun look!

I would love it if you stay a while and check out some of my other fun pumpkin designs. I have over 30 fun tutorials to get inspired by. Click on a picture below to find that inspiration.

Decorate a colorful pumpkin in 5 minutes!

I had one of those moments today where I just had to get up from my computer screen. My eyes and body was getting so tired and I needed to take a mini break.

So I walked into our design studio and saw a pile of ripped fabric scraps. Each of the ripped scraps were about 2 feet long and were in assorted colors. I picked four colors of fabric and alternated them around a small faux pumpkin. On the top, I tied it into a big tattered bow at the top of the stem. Since I did this in 5 minutes, I didn’t really use any glue to hold it together permanently, but I may go back and add a little Aleene’s Tacky Glue to attach it to the pumpkin.  The bow covers up the stem, but if you were using a real pumpkin, you could just pull the stem off if that bothered you.

I actually think this would look really cute next to a red painted pumpkin and a turquoise painted pumpkins (like these from my friend Jen of Tatertots & Jello). I love the idea of non-traditional Halloween pumpkins, don’t you?

Until next time Swellions!
