I now interrupt this Halloween season to bring you an important lesson on personal fashion.
By no means do I call myself a fashionista. Sure, I can recognize cool things in the store, nice color combos, and if you asked me to pair up and accessorize and outfit I could if I had to. The thing is, though, that when it comes to doing this for myself, it is a lot easier said than done.
So, today I wore this to work and I will have to admit that it is one of the more flattering things I’ve worn together in a while. I find that day to day, my jeans and belly covering blouse shirts are a little lackluster, but this look to me plays up my best features and deceives the eye not to focus on my worst.
For starters, the shirt I purchased from JCPenney last year is long enough and covers up my belly. I like this style of top, but for some reason, it is very hard for me to find tops in this style. I might not be looking in the right place. Secondly, I’m wearing it over tights along with boots I bought last year that show off my best asset…my legs. Admittedly, I should wear more skirts and play them up more, but honestly, I’m lazy and jeans are usually a quick go-to option. I need to get out of that habit. The throwover cardigan covers up my arms, an area I’m a little sensitive about. And I added a long camera necklace to add a little personality to the outfit.
The only thing I’d say I’m missing is a pop of color. I tend to gravitate toward black outfits (9 times out of 10 over brown). I guess it’s a comfort thing. I also think it works cause it’s a layered look that I don’t do very often. It’s expensive to buy shirts/cardigans/tights/accessories in every shade/style to layer together and it’s a lot of work to mix and match them.
Admittedly, wearing this, especially with the boots brought my confidence level up today. All it took was wearing heels. I don’t see myself doing this everyday though. Yowsers, that would be so rough. I guess I can understand why women do it though to feel powerful.
And while photographing this, I had a little fun taking photos. Here’s another cool one I took that seriously plays up my boots.
So what is your go-to outfit that you feel good in? I only have a few that I feel really work. I need to get some more!
Until next time Swellions!
