Let’s hear it for lasagna and weekends!

You’ll get the title if you read on. In the meantime, check out the cute decorations I scored for 10¢ each this past weekend at an estate sale!

On another Halloween note, check out the pumpkins grew for me. I picked out the seeds several months back. Yeah, he has a green thumb!

I made new Fresno buttons. I guess they don’t make sense to people who live here, but locals appreciate them. The Bubba, Oz, and Zara ones are local celebrity buttons and the Madera one is for Fresno’s nearby city/subarb.

I enjoyed polishing my nails and sitting by the koi pond at William’s house.

Back to the estate sale. The lady was super crafty and had tons of needlepoint supplies, ribbon, books, and patterns. I also found her paint stash. Inside was wom vintage Tulip® packaging from my work (iLoveToCreate). Love the kitsch of old packaging!

Here’s a tray I bought too!

Here’s something I didn’t buy but rings oh so true to me! I figured it would just add to the clutter of my desk!

Here’s a pennant I bought for my friend Silvia. I hope she likes it! I think she will 🙂

I also spent time with my little poodle friend, Frankie. Here’s a video of him, just to show you what a beast he truly is!
If you can’t see it, try viewing it here.

Until next time Swellions!

5 Freaky Friday Finds

It’s Friday again! Time for another round of 5 Freaky Friday Finds! I love Halloween so much. I hope you find my roundup and are inspired to start scheming on your own Halloween crafts and festivities!

This photo from Mouseteff is simple and inspiring. Love the bokeh!

I wonder if I could squeeze myself into this Horror Movie Corset by The Luna Girls’?

Another vintage movie find was these cookies from Rolling Pin Productions! Amazing!

This is a really clever idea for pumpkins! (Via Nabuzz)

I’ve always loved the work of Catherine Holman. This cute cupcake canvas is no exception!

Until next time Swellions!

Some of my many buttons

Bowl o' Buttons

This weekend, I was very busy working on buttons!!! My boy William (yes, I have a boyfriend now) and I cut and made them using my button maker. Yippee!!!

I made some kitschy ones and also some ones just with Fresno sayings. I plan to sell them locally at Twee, my friend Pattie and Melanie’s store in the Tower District!

What I like about making these is that once you have the machine and the button backs, it takes like no time to make a handful of buttons. I’m all about the quick and easy craft and the result is so polished and perfect that I get really excited (have I mentioned I’m kinda messy crafter/rough around the edges??). I like that I succeeded at creating something so cool. I got a fishbowl today so people can fish through them. I love being able to fish through a bowlful of buttons or beads! There’s something very cool and tangible about discovering a design that is totally you!

Anyway, here are some more or my buttons. As I mentioned before, I created them using loteria wrapping paper.

Fashion Graffiti on the Fly

This weekend, my friend Silvia (a.k.a. StudioMama) and I did a quick and easy video showing you how easy it is to use the new Tulip Fashion Graffiti products! We had a blast doing it! We just played with the product and had fun…I think part of the cool thing about this product is that it really allows you to just play and not think so much. I tend to overanalyze and think too much sometimes about what I am designing. This lets you loosen up and be free with your art and break out of that mold.

I was inspired by some various pillows I had found online (some retailing up to $70 a pop)!!

Here’s a pic of the finished product! It’s sloppy and messy…what makes graffiti so great!

Here’s a whole slew of projects that we also have using the Graffiti product. We’ve compiled them in this Flickr set. Click on each project and at the bottom is the tutorial link to the project instructions on iLoveToCreate.

Look for Tulip® Fashion Graffiti™ endcap at your local Michaels! It’s also available via iLoveToCreate.com!

New Swell Show & Tell

Here’s my 3rd installment in my “Swell Show & Tell”. I talk about a great new book, a great new plate I purchased, and a great new accessory I hope to add to my revamped office. Oh, and I even added in a couple sound effects.

Oh and a behind the scenes note…I worked for 2+ hours on my first version and somehow deleted it all when I tried to add a photo into my iMovie. Yikes. Yeah, I was ticked. Oh, well…you live, you learn. I did add in a couple sound effects I recorded on Garageband and I’m really digging the slew of sound effects you can choose from for your video. There are quite a few to choose from…from country to hip hop to crazy/silly sound effects.

Oh and some deets about what I talk about…

– The Crafter’s Devotional can be purchased here from Amazon.
– I got the deer half off at Border’s. Run quick if you want one too!
– My printer is the Pixma MP490. Here are the details from Canon’s web site. It is an all in one also with a copier and scanner.
– The Old Navy plate was by the checkout and I got it for $3.50 on sale. Another one of those, you better run and get it if you want it. They also had cute matching striped bowls.
– No Pixie cats were harmed in the making of this video. Harhar.
– Oh, and thank the Lord that the video capture stopped at one of my more flattering moments. Totally not diggin’ the double chin!
– And I think I have Britney Spears’ crazy eyes at the start of this! LOL.

Hope you have a great week!

Until next time Swellions!

I made my first video!

I got a video camera this weekend and I uploaded this little video showing off some of my craft goodies that I am making/using.

For all of y’all who wonder what I really sound like and look like, this is for you. Super exciting stuff…NOT!

Hee hee. I always think it is weird/cool when you see a person talking in a video that you’ve only seen in pictures. Let me know if anything about it surprises you. Haha.

Oh and if you are interested in some of my little button packs, you can find it here on my Halloween Etsy Shop.

Hope everyone had a super swell holiday weekend. Until next time Swellions!

This and that

Just wanted to share a couple things tonight. First off, I made this copper and red metallic G for my friend Gloria. I love these paper mache letters. Actually, I really love the giant ones at Joann. I would love to do a whole word project of some kind with these things. I don’t know a person who doesn’t love personalized letters!

I actually used that plastic/metallic mesh ribbon (the kind you can get at the fabric store fo 20¢ a yard) to create the texture. I actually used Tulip 3-D Fashion Paint for the dots. I’m really happy with how they turned out on this project. What can I say, I like dots! And their easy!

In other news, did I tell you guys that I was on Sister Diane’s Craftypod Podcast? Check it out here. I’m the 3rd of 4th person that talks about why I “Make Things”. You can prob. tell it’s me, cause I’m the only one with a southern accent! Ha ha.

Also, you need to check out my friend Maya’s tie dye video. She has become a real pro with the tie dye! I’m super impressed with her end creation. It makes me want to get some and make a cool t-shirt like she did. Oh, and listen to her as her “Daisy” character. She gives me a little shout out. It made my day today.

Well, gotta get ready for bed! Hope you have a great Wednesday!

Until next time Swellions!

So, here I am doing something I claim I never have time to do…the 365 project where you take a photo of yourself each day of the year. The truth is that I always thought it was a cool idea, but there was a big part of me that didn’t know if I could be committed to it. It is a commitment that I am going to try to make. Even if it is with the crappy iphone camera.

Chris told me I should do it, cause he’s doing it, and I texted him back saying that I in a few sum words, “Needed to lose weight”. Well, I thought about it and there’s always going to be something that’s going to keep you from doing something if you let it. I need to just be sometimes and accept myself for the way that I am.

I do like my hair in this photo, but I’m not fond of the wrinkles that are starting to show (actually, I’ve always had bags under my eyes…even as a child). Like most people, I can be pretty darn critical of myself and I’m starting to see the signs of aging on myself. Also, I think this has a lot to do with my lack of sleep, which seriously isn’t healthy.

If you know me, you know I’m not a very revealing person. I plan on not revealing too, too much with this whole 365 thing, but I think you can tell a lot in a person’s eyes and I don’t know that I’m that great at faking emotion. Sometimes I am, just depends on my mood.

I used Daniel Diaz’s b/w filter from Action Central on this. It’s my favorite filter. I tried 5 other ones that frankly made my photo look worse. I would also like to expand my knowledge on color correction with this project as well.

So wish me luck. We’ll see where it takes me, considering I’m in a whole new place (literally) in my life.

Until next time Swellions!

The Swell Shop is open for business!

Hey guys! I just opened a shop on Etsy filled with colorful, artful digital prints of some of my favorite craft supplies (I’m betting they’re some of yours too!). Right now I only have 7 images up in my shop for purchase, but I plan on putting more up as time allows. I will in the next few days also be offering some specials, so keep your eyes peeled for that. Setting up one of these shops isn’t a LOT of work, but it is time consuming and not something you can just do on a whim. I had to research professional phtoography sources, create a banner, research prices for photography, and now I have to actually think about colors for photo backgrounds, etc. I think so far that the shop looks pretty vibrant and colorful and I plan to keep it that way. I am a busy gal as most of you guys prob. already know. My mind is racing a mile a minute and since I love photography and it is relatively easy to organize to sell, I figured it would be a good item for me to sell on my etsy shop. I may in the future sell some other stuff, but for now I’m going to try to stay focused just on the photography and see where and if that takes me anywhere! I’m hoping. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

I’ve been wanting to open up a shop for a while, but I’ve not just sat down and focused on it. I did reach out online, since I’m new to the area and found out that several ladies wanted to create a Central California Etsy group! So, now I’m on board with that as well. I hope to get involved and get to know some of those ladies! That should be super fun to interact with some other creative people in the area.

Please hop on over there and check out my shop and send your friends over there if you think they might like my stuff. Please feel free to send me any suggestions or ideas you have for future photos as well!

Oh, and on a closing unrelated note, Britney Spears is the new face of Candies. Check out the video below of her Candies shoot as well as scenes from her Circus tour, which starts tomorrow in New Orleans. I really wish I were lucky enough to go see it. I’m betting it would be a blast! Her costumes look pretty over the top as do the props. I signed up on the Candie’s site to win concert tickets in L.A., but yeah, I’m betting that’s going to happen.

Until next time Swellions!
